Fort Stockton

Saturday, January 11, 2020 - Alpine, TX

Mike needed to refill his prescriptions and the nearest Walgreens is in Midland which is about 2 hrs and 15 minutes away from here, so he moved his prescriptions to Walmart.  The nearest Walmart is in Fort Stockton, which is approximately 60 miles away.  :)
After we picked up all of the things we needed at Walmart ,we headed over to the fort to tour it.  We learned about the Buffalo Soldiers.  Mike already knew about them, but I had never heard of them.  They were the soldiers that protected the travelers and settlers on the numerous roads and trails heading west to Mexico and California from San Antonio.

Here is a depiction of one of soldiers.
Here is what the grounds looked like back in the day.
Here are what the grounds look like today.  They have renovated them very nicely.

This is the guard house.

Here is the inside of a couple of the buildings.

While we were here we found out the have a self guided tour of the city.  So we headed for the visitor center to pick up a guide that contains all of the stops.
While we were at the visitor center we checked out the oil pump.

One of the stops on the tour was the Grey Mule Saloon, which is now a winery tasting room.  Of course we had to go in and do some tasting.  :)
Stop 9 was the old Historic Old Jail.
Stop 10 was the Oldest House.
Another stop was the Old Fort Cemetery.
Most of the soldiers have now been moved to the Texas National Cemetery.

And another stop was for the Fort Stockton Road Runner.  :)
We had a really nice time running around the town of Fort Stockton.

On the way home I took a couple of pictures of the deer that run around the town of Alpine.  It is really hard to see the deer in the second picture.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Travel to Alpine

Sunday, January 5, 2020 - Alpine, TX

The drive to Alpine was beautiful!

I know I shouldn't be taking pictures while driving, but as you can see from the pictures there was not much traffic.  :)

We arrived at Lost Alaskan RV Park in the early afternoon.  It is a very nice RV park and we will be here for the next couple of months.
Ever since we brought Jess, Tony and Abbie through here in 2006, I have wanted to come back.  Well here we are.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Head back to San Antonio

Thursday, January 2-3, 2020 - Von Ormy, TX

We were up early in the morning to leave Norfolk and start our drive home.  Our original plan was to stop for the night when we got about halfway, but we were moving along pretty good so we drove 26 hours straight through, stopping only for food and gas.  It was long drive.

It was another wonderful day!

Happy New Year!

Today we took the kids to the park and played!  First it was Grandma's turn to slide down the slide with the kids.

Next it was Papa's turn.

Then Grandma took another turn.

Then we took a couple of 3 generation pictures.

After we were done playing we went to Dairy Queen.
