Travel to Cheyenne

Sunday, July 12, 2020 - Cheyenne, WY

We got up and went downstairs to get our sack breakfast, which was not very impressive.  It was a breakfast bar and a bottle of water.

After saying our "Good-byes" to Tony and Miranda, we headed out.  It was another beautiful day.
When we arrived at North Platte, NE we took a nice long break at Cody Park.  Before going to the park we picked up some Kentucky Fried Chicken.  We found a nice picnic table and had lunch.
After the kids were done eating they played on the playground right behind us.
Then we walked over to see if the buffalo were in their pen, but we did not see any, so we headed for the train exhibit.  :)  On the way over to the train I took this great picture.
The train exhibit was really nice.

Avander is the engineer!
The fire box
All three checking out all of the gauges and levers.
The mail car.

Now we are back in the sleeping quarters.

The outside of the cars.
The kids in the other engine.

After visiting the train exhibit we drove further around and found some of the animals that were here.  :)  We saw deer, one very large elk and many geese.
The elk was out on the island, so is was a little harder to get a good picture of him.  That and he was headed for the water.
Next we headed for the carnival rides.  :)  The first ride they went on was the merry-go-round, which was an old wood merry-go-round.

Next Ami wanted to go on this ride, but the boys did not want to ride it.  There was another little girl that also wanted to ride, but did not want go by herself, so the 2 of them rode it together.

In the meantime, the boys rode on the swing.

Once Ami's ride was over she saw the boys riding on the swing and wanted to ride it too, but the boys did not want to ride it again, so Grandma went with her.  :)

Once the ride was over Grandma was READY to get OFF.  :)

In the meantime, the boys rode on this ride.

I was real glad when Ami said she did not want to ride this one.  :)  The boys did not want to ride it again either.  They still had enough tickets left for one more ride, so they all agreed to go back to the merry-go-round.

It was time to get back on the road, so we headed back to the car.  As we were headed out of the park ,we saw the burros and peacocks!  Ami insisted we stop.  :)  We got some feed to feed them with, which they all seemed to enjoy.

I think Ami was most excited about the peacocks.  :)

Before we left the park, I took a quick picture of the sign.
This is a very nice park.  If you ever find yourself passing by North Platte, NE, this is worth the stop.

The sunset was beautiful!

We finally made it to Cheyenne, WY.  We spent the night at the Little America Hotel and Resort.  It was very nice.

It was another wonderful day!

Travel to Des Moines

Saturday, July 11, 2020 - Des Moines, IA

Thursday Lauren stopped by for a visit and found out that we were going to board Gracie for the weekend while we went to pick up the grandkids in Des Moines, so she offered to watch Gracie for the weekend.  I know Gracie will like being home a lot more!  Thanks Lauren!

Mike and I were up early this morning.  We have a 14+ hour drive to get to Des Moines, IA.  Miranda is bringing the grandkids there from Indiana to meet us part way.  The drive was very nice.

If you look to the left of the picture you will see a dust devil.  I think this is the best picture of a dust devil I have been able to get.  :)
Miranda and the kids arrived at the hotel around 5:00pm.  Miranda fed the kids around 7:00pm at Culver's.  Once we were about 45 minutes away we ordered pizza from Pizza Hut for Mike and I to be delivered to the hotel room.  According the person that took the order the pizza should have arrived at about the same time we arrived.  We waited about 30 minutes before calling to find out where it was and they said it was out for delivery.  After another 30 minutes we called again.  This time according to the call center the order was not in the system.  They would be happy to place another order for us, but it would be an hour before it would arrive...  I told them never mind.  We went to the grocery store just down the street and pick something up.  When we got back to my room I checked my credit card and sure enough they charged it, so I called back.  They finally found the order and it was delivered to the wrong hotel!

Tony arrived at the hotel shortly after we got back.  :)  They kids were all watching TV, so we went down and moved the kids stuff from Tony's truck to our car.

It was another wonderful day.

Magpie

Tuesday, July 7, 2020 - Fort Bridger, WY

I have seen these birds around and I had no idea what they were, so we asked Dee.  She said they were Magpie's.  :)
It was another wonderful day.

Expedition Island

Sunday, July 5, 2020 - Fort Bridger, WY

This morning we were going to go to church, but due to the increase in the number of COVID cases they have once again cancelled face to face services.  You can just watch them on-line. :(  So we went home, changed our clothes and headed for Green River, WY.

The drive over was very nice.
Expedition Island is in Green River and we wanted to check it out before the grandkids got here next week.  I had read on the internet there is tubing down the Green River and we wanted to make sure there was not an age limit.  Well, it is not what I thought.  I thought there was a place to rent the tubes, but you just bring your own and enjoy.

We will buy some tubes and plan to do this when Tony and Miranda are here.

The park is very nice.
There is also a playground with a splash pad.

It was another wonderful day!
