Colossal Cave Mountain Park

Saturday, September 2, 2017 – Amado, AZ

We were amazed by the number of prickle pear fruit these plants produced, so I just had to take a picture.  :)  They are located up by the office.

Today we decided to go on a cave tour at Colossal Cave Mountain Park.  On the way up we began to discuss how many small airports there were in the area.  I looked it up on the phone and found 3 in the Green Valley area, so we decided to take a look at them.  The first one was Continental Airport.  We tried to find it, but all we found as a possible runway.  It is no longer an airport.  :)  The next one was Flying Diamond Airport.  Well this one is part of a gated community.

According to the website there are a couple of lots still for sale and Mike would like to see them.  I think he just really wants to the FBO.  :)

The drive to this airport took us down a dirt road with several homes along the route.  One of them had several signs out front that Mike wanted me to take a picture of.

The next one was Ruby Star Airport, which was not very far away from Flying Diamond and it is also a gated community on a dirt road.

We finally made it to Colossal Cave Mountain Park.  This is a very nice county park.

We did not have to wait very long before we went on our tour.  It was short, but very nice.

Toward the end of the tour someone asked how often they see bats on a tour, and just as he gots the words out of mouth a bat flew by.  It was very funny.  :)

It was another wonderful day!
