Papa watches Avander

Wednesday, September 3, 2014 - Norfolk, VA

Nothing real exciting happened yesterday.  I worked and Mike got a couple of things done around the trailer.  Yesterday was Alex's first day of "Big Boy School", which is preschool at the public school.  He will be going 5 days a week 9:00am til 3:30pm.  That is a long day for a little guy.  But I hear it went real well for him and he wants Papa to take him to school tomorrow.  :)

Mike got up early this morning to head for Norfolk.  He is not feeling 100%, but he did get to Norfolk in time to take Alex to school  :)

I think this is one of those days when Mike is really missing all of the stuff we sold.  His plan was to change the oil in the Suburban and rotate the tires.  Jess and Mike don't have any ramps and they do not have a heavy duty hydraulic floor jack.  :)  He did not get the tires rotated.  It is one of the hottest days of the summer.  The high today was 103.  Too hot to work outside much.

It was another wonderful day!

Labor Day

Monday, September 1, 2014 - Williamsburg, VA

Happy Labor Day Everyone!

I told Mike I did not want to wake up to an alarm.  I wanted to get up whenever I woke up.  Well that was not all that late.  I was awake at about 6:30am, but did not get out bed until closer to 7:00am.  We finally got ourselves ready and headed for Jess's to pick up Gracie.  We did not stay for very long.  Mike wanted to get several things done around the trailer today.

We went to the grocery and Mike worked on a couple of things around the trailer.  It was a lazy kind of day.

It was another wonderful day!

National Aquarium

Sunday, August 31, 2014 - Baltimore, MD

We got up early this morning, had breakfast, packed up the Suburban and headed for Baltimore, MD.  We had a 2.5 hour drive and are planning on meeting Ben, Jamie, Noah, Dylan, Anna and Patsy at the National Aquarium.

When we got there I called Patsy and she said they would be arriving in about 10 minutes.  Right after we parked the car and as we were getting out I saw Ben drive by on the next level down.  He also saw me, so we were able to easily connect up.

This is Dylan, Noah, Avander and Alex inside the entrance to the National Aquarium.

Then we went upstairs to look out at the bay area.

There were lots of site to be seen at the aquarium.

The boys were all getting very hungry, so we decided we would be able to get more food for the same price outside of the Aquarium.  We all got our arms stamped to return to the aquarium after lunch.  :)  We ate lunch at Tir Na Nog.  It is a Italian restaurant.  It was very good.  We had a real nice time.  This ship was across the way from where we ate.

After lunch Ben, Jamie, Noah, Dylan, Anna and Patsy needed to head out.  We sure did have a wonderful visit and it was really great to meet Anna.  :)

The rest of us headed back to the Aquarium.  We still wanted to see the dolphins and the jellies.  The boys really enjoyed it.

We had a really nice time at the aquarium.

It was a long ride home, but it was another wonderful day!

Shenandoah National Park

Saturday, August 30, 2014 - Shenandoah National Park, VA

Jess, Mike J., the boys and Lauren arrived at our trailer around 10:00am.  Then we ran over to Wal-Mart to pick up a couple of items for our picnic lunch.  Then finally headed for Shenandoah National Park.

We arrived at a picnic spot around 12:30pm, near South River Falls Trailhead.  We pulled out our picnic lunch.

Alex and Avander were not interested in eating, they were more interested in exploring.

We were up in the clouds and when they would go by the temperature would drop several degrees.
After eating lunch and swatting at bugs, we packed up our food and got ready to head down the trail.

This is a 3.3 mile loop trail.  I was not sure we would make it the entire way.  It would depend on how Jess was feeling.  The first part of the trail was all down hill.  :)

Avander tripped several times over the roots on his way down the hill, but that did not stop him from wanting to go down.  :)

We continued down the hill.

Once we got down to the creek we played in the water for a little bit.

Then we hiked down to the view of the waterfalls.

Right after I took this picture Mike turned around to see the waterfalls and saw a snake on the rocks behind him instead.  :)  Down the path a little further was another viewing point.

On the way back up to the parking lot, Avander and Alex got very tired and fell asleep.  :)

Mike's head was getting very sweaty, so he put Avander's shorts on his head.  :)
Jess was getting very tired and so were Mike and Mike J. from carrying the boys, so I started walking faster so I could get to the car and drive it to the entrance of the trail.  This saved them about 1/4 to 1/2 of a mile.

Once we were back to the car we headed for the Best Western in Harrisonburg, VA.  This is where we stayed for the night.  When we arrived it was time to eat dinner.  There was a Domino's right across the parking lot from the hotel, so this is what we had for dinner.

Then it was time to do a little swimming.  After swimming we were all very tired, so it was time to head back to the hotel room and head for bed.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Drive Home

Friday, August 29, 2014 - Williamsburg, VA

I was on the road by 6:00am.  I missed all of the rush hour traffic in Indianapolis and arrived in Dayton at a good time also.  It was a beautiful day for a drive and the views are very nice also!  :)

Once I got to Richmond, VA, the drive got very slow!  I was on target for arriving in Norfolk by 4:45pm, but I did not arrive until 5:45pm.  I still do not like the traffic in this area!

Once I arrived at Jess and Mike J.'s I said a couple of quick "hello"'s and then Mike and I said our "good-bye"'s to head for Enterprise to drop off the rental car, then head for home.  I was really looking forward to sleeping in my own bed!

Mike and I had pizza for dinner, then we called it a night.

It was another wonderful day!

Drive Back to Indy

Thursday, August 28, 2014 - Indianapolis, IN

This morning Diane and I said our "good-bye"'s and I headed for work at the hospital.  It was nice day at work.  Around 4:00pm I headed back for Indianapolis.  The plan is to leave from Indy first thing tomorrow morning.

Mom had made egg salad sandwiches for dinner.  They were great.  It has been awhile since I have had egg salad.  Just not something I think about making.  :)

After eating my dinner, I went through all of the mail Diane had collected for us.  Most of it was either magazines or junk mail.  Mike will have a lot of reading material once I return home.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Earl's Retirement Party

Wednesday, August 27, 2014 - La Porte, IN

Up early again this morning to drive to La Porte.  My original plan was to have my annual physical today, but the doctors office called to re-schedule.  I could see another doctor in the practice or reschedule.  Well since I am not sure when I will be back in town, I just told them I would call to reschedule.

I was also going to get my flu vaccination while I was here, but I received an e-mail stating there is a delay in getting the vaccine, so I will need to come back for that also....

I did go to lunch with Diane today.  We ate at Karmel Coffee House.  We had a really nice lunch, then we took Franklin for a quick walk, before heading back to the library.

This evening I went to Spire Farm to Fork Restaurant to celebrate Earl's retirement.  The weather was perfect to have it out on the patio of the restaurant.  I think everyone from the department was there.  :)  There were a lot of people there, but I found out later that there were a lot of people left off the invite list due to space restrictions at the restaurant.  They had some really nice Hors d'oeuvres set out.

Finally Andrew got up and introduced Thor, who did a short little speech.  Earl then tool his turn at a short little speech.  Then they passed the microphone around to let anyone else have a chance.  I did not really want to give a speech, just because I really don't like doing that kind of thing.  But I did it anyway.  :)  Earl and I first meet at my job interview for my first job at La Porte Hospital many years ago and we have worked together for many years since then.

Once the party broke up I headed for Diane's.  She ordered pizza for delivery.  We had a wonderful evening of conversation, pizza, conversation, wine and more conversation.  It was wonderful catching up.  It was finally getting late, so we called it a night.

It was another wonderful day!
