Move Cats

Tuesday, March 31, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

Today they moved the catfish from an unlined pond to a lined pond.  The fish will be spawning soon and they want the young to re-populate another pond after the fishing derby later this summer.  :)  Mike, Rick and Thomas were in the kettle catching the fish and placing them in the basket, so the catfish could be put in the transfer truck.

Patricia was running the basket and Katherine was taking pictures and documenting the fish count.  They did end up moving 185 catfish.
That evening as we were walking by the Gator when Gracie hopped in.  She wanted to go for a ride.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Visit San Antonio

Sunday, March 29, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

After Mass this morning we headed for San Antonio.  We have wanted to several times this winter and now we have finally made it. We headed straight to the Alamo.  We took the tour and really enjoyed it.

After the tour we headed for the river walk.  It is just across the street from the Alamo.  We walked along the river walk and found a restaurant to have dinner at.

We ate at County Line.  We shared a combo plate of beef and pork ribs.  It was very good, but we both agreed that the pork ribs were better.  Before we were seated we had a drink at the bar and the bartender took our picture.  :)
We were lucky enough to get a table next to the river.  It was very nice.

It was another wonderful day!

Wild Hog Festival

Saturday, March 28, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

While we were walking Gracie this morning we decided we would get the camera and the Gator to get a picture of all of the different wild flowers blooming here at the Fish Hatchery.  I am sure we missed some, but here they are:

The only flowers I know are the Blue Bonnets in the first picture.  They are the state flower of Texas.  :)

We had a few errands to run in Uvalde, then we headed for Sabinal, TX to watch a Wild Hog catching contest.  It sounded like fun, so we just had to go and check it out.  :)  Once we arrived in Sabinal we stopped by the Brown's Deli and Gifts for some lunch and ice cream.  It was all about the name.  :)

The food and service were really good.

We finally made it to the Wild Hog Festival.  We did not have much time to walk around, so we headed right over to the Wild Hog Contest.  Up first was the little kids.  They just caught the pig and got a ribbon.  They released several pigs and the kids run around.  The kids seemed to have a really good time.

For the older kids and adults they would go out as a 2 person team and they would release a single hog for them to catch.  Whoever caught the hog in the fastest time in the age group was the winner.

There was even a couple of women from the Philippines.  It was a lot of fun!

It way another wonderful day!

ER Trip

Thursday, March 26, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

This morning Gracie was outside on her leash making a racket, so I went out to investigate and bring her in.  Well when I walked around the front of the trailer there were 3 rabbits sitting on the gravel road.  I was sure they would run away before I got back with the camera, but they didn’t and I was able to get their picture.

They found out from the roadrunner that they can stay just outside of Gracie reach, so they can get this dog to bark at them and there is nothing else the dog could do.  :)

Since last Friday when Mike was helping pour concrete his back has been really bothering him.  I have been asking him to please go to the ER to have it looked at.  Well this evening we finally went.  While he was there he had them look at his wrist, which has been hurting for about 5 or 6 weeks now.  The diagnosis for his back was Sciatica and the diagnosis for his wrist was Tendinopathy.  Both will be fine in a couple of weeks and 3 different prescriptions for pain and swelling.

It was another wonderful day!

Cover back on!

Wednesday, March 25, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

This evening we were successful on getting the under belly cover back on!  With a little help from Thomas and Patricia.  Patricia walked by and asked why we weren’t using the fork lift to hold up the cover while we were getting it into place.  Well that was something we did not think about, so we went and got the fork lift.  Once the cover was under the trailer Patricia got on the fork lift while me, Mike and Thomas got the cover lined up.  After we did a couple of last minute modifications we were able to get it lined up and attached!

This is what the corner that was rubbed off now looks like.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Dinner out

Tuesday, March 24, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

This evening we went to Taqueria El Herrader Mexican Restaurant for dinner with Thomas and Patricia.  Thomas and Patricia will be leaving next week and we will be leaving the week after that, so we decided to we would go out to celebrate a great winter in Uvalde!

It was another wonderful day!

Lost Maples State Natural Area

Sunday, March 22, 2015 - Uvalde, TX

Today after Mass we went to Lost Maples State Natural Area.   On our way up we stopped by to read the couple of Historical Markers that were along the way.  Over the years we have always seen them, but never took the time to stop and read them.  Well we have decided if we are just out site seeing, then we are going to take the time to stop and read them.  We have read several while we have been in the area.  According to The Historical Marker Database site there are 2908 markers in the state of Texas.  I don't think we will ever get them all read.  :)

Once at Lost Maples State Natural Area we stopped at the visitors center to find out which trails would be the best ones to take.  We decided to take the East Trail, which would give us the best views and be about 5 miles long.  According to the ranger there were going to be some steep climbs.  :)

It was beautiful day and the trail did not start to bad.  :)  Our first stop was Monkey Rock!

After passing primitive campsite A we got to the steep part!  And boy oh boy was it steep.  We ended up needing to make 2 stops to rest for a couple of minutes before continuing on.  :)

We finally made it to the top and the views were beautiful!

We continued on down the trail and finally made our way back down to the valley.  At the bottom there was a swimming hole, which Gracie just had to go swimming in.  :)

It was a very nice hike and we were very tired when we got back to the car.  On our way out we stopped to take a picture of the sign.  :)
It was another wonderful day!
