Beautiful Day

Sunday, February 01, 2015 – Uvalde, TX

Today was a beautiful day!  This morning we went to Mass at Sacred Heart again.  Today after Mass we did not go out to breakfast, instead we had BLT’s at home.  It has been a while since we have had them and they were delicious.  :)

In the afternoon I sat outside on the lawn chair catching up on this blog in the Word document, while Mike worked on his airplanes and my flat bicycle tire.  :)

Once Mike was done repairing my tire we went for a bike ride.  We took Gracie with us.  We stopped by the display pond up front.  Gracie jumped in a couple of times and I unknowingly stepped on an ant hill.  I started feeling something biting me and I looked down and saw my shoes were covered with ants.  I stomped my feet a couple of times and smashed the rest of them.

We hopped back on our bikes and continued on around the ponds.  Toward the back of the grounds Gracie started after something and Mike grabbed his front brake!  Big mistake!  He went flying over the front of his bike!  OUCH!  He now has a little road rash on his forearm and on his hand.  :(  He said he should have let her go.  She will only run a couple of feet with the leash in tow.  :)

Mike did get Tony’s plane ready to fly, but it was a little too windy to fly today.

It was another wonderful day!

Drive to the Hill Country

Saturday, January 31, 2015 – Uvalde, TX

Today was a rainy day!  This morning Mike agreed to take Thomas’s turn at the weekend fish feeding, so we were up early to feed the fish.  Since we took Gracie with us we took the Gator out to feed them.  Did I mention it was raining?  She ran alongside while we drove.  The Gator does not have windshield, so we were getting very wet.  :)

Since it was going to be a rainy day we decided it would be a nice day to just drive around to check out the area.  We drove to Sabinal, TX where we thought we would find a visitor center.  Well the map we were given at the library is a couple of years old and the visitor center does not exist anymore.  :)  So we just drove north on TX 127.  This took us to the Hill Country.  Uvalde is considered part of the South Texas Plains.  After driving for about 25 miles the landscape changed, it became hilly and a lot more trees.  This area appears to be very much a tourist area in the summer time.  Lots of campgrounds, cabins for rent and river outfitters, for tubing, kayaking and rafting.

We stopped by Garner State Park and talked to the lady at the visitor center.  We did not pay to enter the park since it was a rainy day and we would not be able to go hiking, but we are going to plan to come back again when the weather is nicer.  We will bring Gracie and a picnic lunch with us at that time.  :)

Once we left the park we continued north to Leakey, TX.  Leakey is a quaint little town with a couple of motorcycle stops, restaurants.  Neither was opened today, but we did find out why they exist.  If you head out of town on the Farm Road that passes by both motorcycle stops, the road becomes very twisty turny.  Just the way a lot of motorcyclists like it.  :)  We did drive the 12 miles to where it ends near Lost Maple Natural Area.  Another place we will need to check out some day.  :)

On the way back I did manage to take a couple of pictures while we were driving.

On the way back we drove south on TX 83.  Soon we passed by a cattle ranch that had Texas long horns and I just had to have Mike stop so I could get these pictures for Jess.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Another Nice Week

Friday, January 30, 2015 – Uvalde, TX

The weather today was not as warm and it was cloudy most of the afternoon and evening.  For the past couple of nights it has been too windy to fly the planes, so we have grabbed something to drink and walked down to Thomas and Patricia’s place to sit out at the table and enjoy the last of the sunshine.  And Gracie and Trailer would get to say “hi” to each other.  At about 5:00pm we would head back down to our place and start dinner.

Each night while we eat dinner we have been watching a movie.  Sometime ago Mike got a set of John Wayne movies.  There are 25 movies in the set and so far we have watched 5 of them.  I find I am having TV/Internet withdraw.  Did I mention we do not have TV or internet access at the trailer.  Well I do have internet via the hotspot on my phone, but I have only been using that for work.

Last night we did watch Blown Away.  It is a movie we checked out from the library.  At the very end of the movie the video quit working properly.  All we could see is screen shots, no sound.  It was a good movie, but it would have been better if we could have seen actual conclusion of the movie.

It was another wonderful day!

Skunk!

Wednesday, January 28, 2015 – Uvalde, TX

Yesterday was a beautiful day and when we went to bed it was still about 70 degrees outside, so Mike left the window on his side of the bed open.  At about 3:30am something got sprayed by a skunk and for as strong as it smelled I was sure it was just outside the window!  I made Mike close the window, and then I hid my head under the covers to try to get away from the smell!

Gracie and I saw the skunk last night on our walk, but I did not think it would come over near the trailer and spray.  It is a very big skunk!  I just hope it is not having babies.

This evening just before dusk Mike, Patricia and Thomas all decided to fly their planes.  Patricia had just gotten her Piper Cub back together after wrecking it about a week ago.  I asked Mike if he would show me how to fly, but before he could turn over the controls to me, the plane quit responding.  Fortunately it did not land to bad.  As we were walking back toward Thomas and Patricia we noticed Patricia’s plane was headed down also.  It landed behind the trees, so we all headed out to find it.  She was not as lucky and will have to repair it again.  At least it is repairable!  Thomas landed without incident.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Lunch with Uvalde Crew

Monday, January 26, 2015 – Uvalde, TX

Just about the time Mike would be coming in for lunch there was a knock at the door.  It was Patricia to see if I was going to go to town with them for lunch.  Well of course.  Jeff took us to Napolis Italian Restaurant.  Jeff is only going to be here a couple more weeks and he wanted to take us out before he leaves.  And today was the day they picked.  It was a very nice lunch.  :)

In the evening we went to the library where I caught up on the blog and Mike ordered some parts for his plane.

It was another wonderful day!
