Meeks Cabin Reservoir

Saturday, July 4, 2020 - Fort Bridger, WY

Happy Forth of July!!!

This morning we got the car packed up with drinks and snacks, then we were going to see if we could find Meeks Cabin Reservoir that Dee told us about.  We did not get very far before we discovered that we could not go any further since the 4th of July parade was starting.  So we hung around and watched the parade.  :)

After just a few groups went by, there was a long break.  We saw an ambulance down at the beginning of the parade route.  We found out later a horse reared up and the rider fell off and the horse came down on her.  We heard a couple of different reason why the horse reared up, but not sure what really happened.  Eventually the parade started back up.

It is hard to see, but at the end of the parade is the pumper truck and it is shooting a fountain of water out the back.  The kids are all running out to cool down.  :)

I thought I took a picture of it when it was closer.  :)

Eventually we made it to Meeks Cabin Reservoir.  Gracie liked the reservoir also!

After walking and playing with Gracie for a little while we found a real nice secluded spot for lunch.

Gracie spent most of the time digging by the fire pit.

As we drove by this spot we saw an old car that had gone down the hill many years ago.

When we finally left the National Forest I just had to take a picture of the sign.  :)

Then we stopped by a public access area of the Black Fork River.

Gracie did go swimming in the river.  :)

It was another wonderful day!

Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area

Friday, July 3, 2020 - Fort Bridger, WY

This morning we headed down to Manila, UT to check out the Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.  The drive down there was beautiful: blue skies, nice temperature, and very little wind.

We drove down to the marina and checked out the area.  We went to the swimming beach and checked it out.  It was very nice.  I thought I took a couple pictures of it, but I guess not.  :)

We went back in to town to have lunch at Brownings.  It was a nice enough place to eat.  As we were finishing, a fire truck went by.  We did not think much about it until we headed toward Red Canyon and came across a boat that had caught on fire while going down the road.

I would not have wanted to be in that car and see my boat on fire in my rear view mirror.  That would be very scary!  There was no ambulance and we saw people around the boat and tow vehicle so we are assuming no one got hurt.

The drive to Red Canyon was beautiful!

We got to a beautiful overlook.  We asked another couple if they would take our picture and in turn we took theirs.  :)

We drove past this pasture area and I just had to take a picture.  :)

Eventually we made it to the Red Canyon.

The view was just Awesome!

After walking around for a while we headed back out and once again I just had to take this picture.

When we drove back by the burned out boat, I took a better picture of it.

This would not be a good way to start a holiday weekend.

On the drive back to Fort Bridger I took just a few more pictures.

Wall Reservoir

Thursday, July 2, 2020 - Fort Bridger, WY

Dee Aimone, the owner of Fort Bridger RV Park, let us know there is a reservoir about 2 miles away.  So this evening we took Gracie over there to check it out.  She loved it!  :)

We will be bringing the grandkids here a couple of times while they are here.  :)

Travel to Fort Bridger

Wednesday, July 1, 2020 - Fort Bridger, WY

We were up very early this morning.  We wanted to get to our destination before the wind picked up.  In the afternoons, it gets very windy here.  The drive today was awesome!

The final turn to the RV Park was on Main Street in Fort Bridger, but when we turned it became a dirt road.  Thankfully there was a sign for the RV Park right as you turn also.  :)  The sites are very large and we have plenty of room.  :)

Gracie says she like the Grass!!!

New Tires & Penitentiary

Tuesday, June 30, 2020 - Rawlins, WY

As soon as we got a call from the Goodyear dealer letting us know the tires arrived, we packed things up and drove to the tire store.  It was a little stressful for me.  I had back to back conference calls for work and a couple of reporting problems, all the while trying to get the trailer ready to go.  

Their parking lot was not very big and we could not fit in the garage.  

But Mike was able to back up right where they wanted it.  :)  While we were getting new tires, 2 more trailers stopped by to get new tires.  The big difference was they both had blow outs.  That is something we want to avoid.  

Once the new tires were on the trailer we headed back to the RV park, while I was preparing for yet another conference call...  I needed power for my laptop, so Mike plugged in the trailer before we were unhitched, so I could connect to the call.  I sat in the trailer while he lined the trailer up in the spot and unhitched.  It was a little exciting being in the trailer while it is moving.  :)

After a stressful day at work, I called it a day on time and we headed back to the Wyoming State Penitentiary to take a tour.  It was a very good tour.

This is a picture of some of the men and women that were incarcerated here.

 This was the visitation room and the gentleman sitting there was "Harry".  Everyone was supposed to say "Hi" to Harry.  It was good luck or something like that.  :)

As you can see the cells were very small and the housed 2 prisoners per cell.  We are guessing the masked bandits were smiling.  :)

 There were 4 stories of cells.

This was the shower room....and they only had cold water.  The prison did not get hot water installed until 1979.....just before they closed.

The kitchen.

The dining room.  The paintings on the wall were done by an inmate.  There was one with a couple of rams that as you walked by, the rams' eyes and heads were always following you.  There was another that no matter where you stood you were always on one side of the train tracks.  They were very cool.

Here is the recreation area.  There was a movie that was filmed here and the hole in the wall in the far corner was made by the movie crew; it was not there when the prison was in use.  :)

This is the gas chamber.  Only 5 inmates were executed in this chamber.

Here is a glossary of terms used by the prison inmates.

One I found humorous in the list below was "Geek"  - Depraved person (carnival slang, one who bites heads off live chickens.  :)

I would recommend the tour as it was very interesting.  If you are so inclined, they have a Halloween tour in October.  Sounds a little scary for me.  :)

Wyoming State Penitentiary

Monday, June 29, 2020 - Rawlins, WY

This morning Mike went to a couple of places to find a new bracket for the air valve on the truck.  He stopped by a welding shop and they gave him a piece from their scrap pile for free.  This afternoon he replaced the rubber bands and C-Clamp.  :)  It looks good to go.

While he was in town he stopped by the Goodyear dealer to see if they had tires for the trailer.  The one tire needs to be replaced real bad.  The rest could have waited until we got back to Indiana later this summer, but they had 6 tires that will work.  The tires are on order and as long as they show up tomorrow we will bring the trailer into town for new tires.

After I was done working today, Mike and I ran into town to check out the route we want to take tomorrow to bring the trailer down to the Goodyear dealer for new tires.  While we were in town we stopped by the Wyoming State Penitentiary museum.  

Their last tour was at 4:30pm and we missed it by about 5 minutes. We did stop by the gift shop and I did get t-shirt.  Even Mike got a t-shirt today.  :)  And he got a picture of me behind bars.  :)

Hopefully we will be back tomorrow afternoon, only this time a few minutes earlier.  :)
