Southwest Virginia Museum

Sunday, May 17, 2015 - Big Stone Gap, VA

This morning we headed for Norton to 10:00am Mass at St. Anthony's, but when we arrived there was not anyone else there.  There was a note on the door that stated that services were going to be at Sacred Heart in Big Stone Gap at 10:30am.  We had plenty of time to make it.  :)

It appears today is the 25th Anniversary of Sacred Heart.  The church was full, it was very nice to see.  It is a very nice service.

This afternoon we decided that since it was a rainy day we would go to the Southwest Virginia Museum.

It is a very nice museum   Come to find out it is a State Park.  :)  Here is a little information about the museum from the website:

A National Historic Landmark, the Southwest Virginia Museum is in an 1890s Victorian stone mansion with original oak interior. The museum's collection includes more than 25,000 pieces and state of the art exhibits telling the story of the exploration and development of Southwest Virginia from the pioneer era of the 1700s to the mining "boom and bust" era of the late 1800s.

There is also a historical marker right outside the museum.

It was another wonderful day!
